Ausiello: Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they have a drunken hookup last season? I seem to recall they did. Regardless, I know of no plans for a Daniel-Hilda coupling. But at a recent event, Ana Ortiz let it slip that Hilda will venture back out into the dating world with a familiar face: Freddy Rodriguez! "It was really just one date at a salsa club," she says of her character's rendezvous with "Mode"'s sandwich-making entrepreneur. "I think he just did it to make my sister jealous."

Turns out Gabrielle Union spoke to soon when she told TVGuide.com that the writers strike nixed her chances of joining Ugly Betty. Multiple sources confirm to me exclusively that the Bring it On actress has just closed a deal to play Wilhelmina's younger sister.

As I scooped in Ask Ausiello last month, the character — Dominique — is described as a relentless party animal who has a skeleton rattling around in her closet.

Incidentally, the role was initially supposed to be recurring, but due to the you-know-what, Union's only booked for one episode.

ABC has added another name to Ugly Betty's guest-star lineup.

Emmy award winner Marlo Thomas will be among the new faces in the hit comedy series' upcoming season. The network said via a press release that Thomas will portray a jewelry company owner named Sandra Winthrop. Greatly attracted to younger men, Sandra takes a liking to Mode magazine editor Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius), who in turn plans to woo Sandra in the hopes of getting her to advertise in the magazine and prove to his family that he is an able businessman.

Joining Marlo Thomas on the guest cast of Ugly Betty's second season are actors Freddy Rodriguez, David Blue, James Van Der Beek, Rick Fox and former Spice girl Victoria Beckham. Rodriguez and Blue will serve as new love interests for Betty (America Ferrera) and Marc (Michael Urie), respectively. Van Der Beek will play a fashion house owner, while Fox will portray Wilhelmina Slater's (Vanessa Williams) bodyguard. Beckham will appear as Wilhelmina's celebrity bridesmaid.

Marlo Thomas, 69, has won three Primetime Emmys and one Daytime Emmy in her career. The most recent was for her work on the 1988 children's program, Free to Be… a Family. She is best known for her portrayal of Ann Marie on the ABC sitcom, That Girl. Her other television credits include Friends, Frasier, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Ally McBeal, Roseanne and Nobody's Child.

The second season of Ugly Betty will premiere on Thursday, September 27, at 8pm on ABC. Fans can expect a lot of major twists and turns from the new season, including a surprising role-reversal for a member of one of the series' main families. Additionally, actress Becki Newton, who plays sultry receptionist Amanda, revealed during the first season DVD release party that her character “turns into a big fattie” following some serious twinkie-binging over the summer.

The 23-year old hated her figure so much that she would burst into tears every time she caught herself in the mirror.

She tells WENN: "I thought I was too fat. I wanted to be one of the Charlie's Angels but couldn't get into the size zero leather trousers."

Ferrera, who plays Betty Suarez in the hit show, also revels in the fact that she was able to get a role so far from the norm in Hollywood: "It's hard for people to see your talent if you don't fit the slim, tall, traditionally beautiful mould. We're not all size zeros and that's OK - because some of us like to eat."

It’s good to see a normal average person on our screens, even if she does have a terrible sense of style as a fashion receptionist.

The Show

These days most new shows on network television are not given much time to gain an audience. About half will not be given a chance to shine due to poor ratings. Then, half of the remaining half will only last one shortened season. What this means is that there are usually only a handful of shows that do become surprise hits and are given a chance. Probably the biggest surprise hit from this past year was a show called Ugly Betty on ABC. Not only was it one of the most watched new shows last season, it also was critically acclaimed. But the question is why was it embraced by critics and viewers alike?

Ugly Betty follows the life of the unsophisticated but good-natured Betty Suarez (America Ferrera), and her job at the ultra-chic New York City fashion magazine MODE. Betty's status as a "fish out of water" drives much of the plot. The series is an adaptation of the Colombian telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea ("I am Betty, the ugly one"),[1] also simply known as "Betty la fea" ("Ugly Betty") written by Fernando Gaitán. The American version of the show is given a New York City setting by creator/developer Silvio Horta and co-producers Salma Hayek and Ben Silverman.

During the first season, most of the storylines revolved around Betty trying to balance her work, home and romantic life, her sister's attempt to join her in selling door-to-door products, and her newfound talent as a beautician and her father's health and immigration problems. As Betty and her boss, Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius), quickly become the success story of the fashion industry, they also must deal with how they got there and how it has affected their working relationship. At work the two find themselves dealing with Creative Director Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams), who wanted the Editor-In-Chief position, while Betty found herself dealing with Marc St. James (Michael Urie), Wilhelmina's assistant/henchman and receptionist Amanda Tanen (Becki Newton), who wanted Betty's job in large part, initially, because of her attraction to Daniel. The only friends that Betty trusts at MODE are seamstress Christina McKinney (Ashley Jenson) and accountant Henry Grubstick (Christopher Gorham), to whom Betty is smitten.

While the plot and premise of this show is rather unique for American television, it's the cast that really shines and made it such a success for season one. This is largely due to America Ferrera in the lead role; she plays Betty perfectly. Others have noticed as well as she has been nominated for the Best Actress Emmy Award. In real life, America is rather beautiful. On the show they try and make Betty ugly on the outside with thick-framed eyeglasses and a large and prominent set of dental braces. She is also lacking in social skills, self-confidence, fashion sense, and aesthetic polish. But Betty has a heart of gold and America Ferrera really brings that out in Betty. From top to the bottom, the supporting characters around Betty are great. Whether it be her family at home or her co-workers, everyone portrays their characters near flawlessly. Salma Hayek even appears on the show as Sofia Reyes in an Emmy-nominated guest role.

Return to the story and premise. Ugly Betty does borrow some from the film The Devil Wears Prada, but this show is really not about the fashion world as much as a story of girl that proves that what you look like on the outside doesn't mean nearly as much as how you are on the inside. Just like Betty, you really can't judge this show by its cover. Ugly Betty has a heart that you can't look past. This show proves that being ugly can actually be a beautiful thing.

Episode 1 - Pilot (I Am Not Going To Sell Herbalux)
Betty has always dreamed of working in the publishing world, but it seems as though there's no place for the non-thin and non-beautiful in the business. People already have their minds set in the idea that beautiful women are only the thin and perfect! Betty really wants a job in that wonderful, yet cruel, world. But can she really find a place in it?

Episode 2 - The Box and the Bunny
Betty loses a book, which is the complete new edition of the magazine and is containing un-retouched photos of a popular actress. She has to find the book before the photos get out to the rest of the press. Meanwhile, Wilhelmina plots to use the snafu to bring Daniel down and Bradford Meade secretively inquires about Fey Sommers' final effects.

Episode 3 - Queens for a Day
Betty uses her Queens connections to lure big time photographer Vincent Bianchi to shoot for the magazine. When Bianchi insists that Betty meet him at a posh restaurant, she gets a makeover but things don't quite turn out as planned. In the mean time, Bradford tries to get his hands on Fey Sommers' death car and Wilhelmina primps for a big date.

Episode 4 - Fey's Sleigh Ride
After MODE is forced to abandon its big Christmas photo shoot because another magazine has copied the idea, Betty forms an uneasy alliance with Marc and Amanda. The three fear they may have leaked the idea to someone at the rival mag. Meanwhile, Daniel and Wilhelmina reluctantly work together to come up with a new photo spread as Mode's deadline looms, and Betty's nephew, Justin, is oblivious to the turmoil as he spends a day at the magazine for a class project.

Disc Two:

Episode 5 - The Lyin', the Watch, and the Wardrobe
It's Halloween and Betty is in for a series of frightful experiences, ranging from showing up dressed for the Mode costume contest until she learns that there isn't one, to dealing with her growing attraction to Henry, and tracking down a watch Daniel left at one of his many girlfriends' apartments, but can't remember which one. Meanwhile, Daniel pays a visit to his mom in rehab, and Wilhelmina is horrified to learn that she can't fit into a designer gown.

Episode 6 - Trust, Lust, and Must
Wilhelmina deals with the strong character of her daughter while Betty and Hilda try to gather $20,000 to save their father from deportation.

Episode 7 - After Hours
Betty takes a break from her escalating family troubles when she's assigned to review a posh new hotel. Meanwhile, Daniel is dismayed when Sofia Reyes and her team take up residence in the Mode conference room, and Wilhelmina goes a little bit country to woo a mega rich Texan to advertise his stores in Mode.

Episode 8 - Four Thanksgivings and a Funeral
To his dismay, Daniel must attend his family's Thanksgiving gathering at the Country Club. Meanwhile, Amanda and Marc create their own gathering at Mode and there is also a dinner at Betty's house where Santos, Justin's father, is in attendance. Meanwhile, Wilhelmina also hosts a Thanksgiving dinner as well, but her feast doesn't look as good as it does in magazine pictures.

Disc Three:

Episode 9 - Lose the Boss
Betty is left alone during an important photo shoot during which the photographer, Bruno, has come up with questionable concepts. Meanwhile, Daniel wants people to believe he is a family man, Mr. Green interrogates a mortician about the remains of a client and Ignacio gets in trouble with Immigration and Customs.

Episode 10 - Fake Plastic Snow
While everyone at Mode is celebrating Christmas, Betty is questioning her relationship with Walter and the feelings she has for Henry. Meanwhile, Daniel is sure of his love for Sofia, and Amanda, in order to get Betty's position, is planning a perfect Mode holiday party that fills the office with Styrofoam snow and holiday wishes.

Episode 11 - Swag
Christina's swag lottery, with the MODE closet clothes and accessories, creates a feeding frenzy among the office fashionistas, while Betty wears herself out helping Daniel who had his credit card cut off, because of a $20,000 expense report that Betty filled and who was rejected, making it impossible for him to wine and dine an important Japanese designer, Oshi.

Episode 12 - Sofia's Choice

Betty has her job cut out for her getting prepared for Mode's huge event during New York City's Fashion Week. Meanwhile, Marc and Amanda can't delay getting their hands on something everybody desires, Christina wishes to create her mark in the design world and Daniel calls for Hilda to grant her sister a hand.

Episode 15 - Brothers
Alexis' shocking announcement causes great commotion at both Mode and the Meade home. Betty tries to maintain the peace and order at Mode, however, she is about to face her own personal turmoil when Henry asks her out on a date and Walter tells her he's got a big surprise in store. Meanwhile, Whilhelmina plots her next move to conquer Mode and Justin gets sent home from school for fighting.

Episode 16 - Derailed
Daniel reconnects with Grace Chin, a girl he once stood up for a date in college, and who is now New York City's top lawyer. Meanwhile, Betty befriends Charlie, an out-of-towner she meets at the Mode cafeteria, whom she later discovers to be Henry's girlfriend.

Disc Five:

Episode 17 - Icing on the Cake
Daniel keeps secret from Alexis the fact that he is the one who hired Grace to defend their father, something which Wilhelmina uses to bring the siblings apart. Meanwhile, when invited by Henry to Charlie's birthday party, a desperate Betty asks Dr. Farkas, her orthodontist, to be her date. Finally, Amanda catches the eye of an unusual designer who claims that she is his muse.

Episode 18 - Don't Ask, Don't Tell
Betty is in for some wild drama when Marc's mother stops by, given that the latter doesn't seem to know that her son is gay and Betty acts as his girlfriend to help him keep his secret. Meanwhile, Daniel and Alexis are forced to work together when Claire names them both co-editors-in-chief.

Episode 19 - Punch Out
The Meades are in for some troubling times when a tell-all writer in possession of Fey Sommer's diaries starts stalking the family. Meanwhile, Betty has a hard time getting Daniel focused on his work now that he has reverted back to his old ways with women. Finally, Wilhelmina and Alexis both try desperately to get a hold of Fey's diaries, but each with her own intentions.

Episode 20 - Petra-Gate
After seeing her working relationship with Daniel, her close friendship with Christina, and her chance to date Henry all fall apart, Betty is left with no choice but to turn her back on all three. Meanwhile, romance is in the air: At MODE, Alexis catches the attention of a guy and he asks her out; Amanda flirts with a designer who she believes is gay; and Wilhelmina finds her latest advances very tiring. Over at the Suarez's, Santos gives Hilda a little surprise.

Disc Six:

Episode 21 - Secretaries' Day
Betty struggles with a dilemma as she attempts to bail her family out of a financial crisis while juggling with the task of planning MODE's big assistants week at a medieval-themed restaurant...where Amanda's past ties to the establishment has a link and could come back to haunt her in a surprising way. On the romantic front involving the Meade siblings, Betty tries to give Daniel advice about his endless sexual addiction, while Alexis ponders about whether she should start taking up Rodrigo's offer. Meanwhile, Hilda prepares for her first exam to determine her future at cosmetology school as Wilhelmina prepares for her future plans to take over MODE as she makes even bolder moves for domination behind the scenes.

Episode 22 - A Tree Grows in Guadalajara
The Suarez family travel to Mexico in a effort to help Ignacio obtain a US Visa and find out more about their true family roots, especially Ignacio's real identity.

Episode 23 - East Side Story
Betty and Henry's romance heats up. Meanwhile, Wilhelmina makes great strides in her ambitious power play, as Daniel descends further in a downward spiral. The Suarez family trip to Mexico takes a dangerous turn, with old ghosts creating new problems. Explosive secrets will be revealed, and everything will be tied together by a beloved Broadway musical.

The Video:

The video is given in widescreen color with an aspect ratio of 1.78:1. It is enhanced for 16X9 TVs. Transfer is good with minimal distortion. There are no problems as far as grain or pixelation. Pretty much on par with other new shows released on DVD these days.

The Audio:

The audio included is available in English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound or Spanish Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo sound. There are subtitles available in English and Spanish as well. Again, it's pretty standard quality for a TV show. The dialogue comes out crisp and clear.

The Extras:

Audio Commentaries -
There are 4 full-length audio commentaries from the cast and crew on select episodes. Silvo Horta (creator/executive producer), Richard Shepard (director), and Teri Weinberg (co-executive producer) comment on the "Pilot" episode. Becki Newton (actress) and Michael Urie (actor) provide commentary on the "Fey's Sleigh Ride" episode. Salma Hayek (executive producer/actress) and Eric Mabius (actor) comment on "Sofia's Choice." Vanessa Williams (actress) and Michael Urie (actor) comment on the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" episode.

"Becoming Ugly" Featurette -
This is the "behind-the-scenes" featurette. It last 12 minutes and talks about how the show came to be and the production behind it. Despite the length of the feature, it is pretty interesting and informative.

"A La Mode" Featurette -
This is a six minute featurette that goes a little more in-depth on fashion, decor, and overall sets of the workplace of MODE Magazine. Some more pretty interesting stuff.

"Green is the New Black" Featurette -
This is a five minute featurette that talks about how they take the "green scene" and use it to provide all of the backgrounds and settings used in the show. Interesting in that it looks like the whole show was show on location in New York City, but that's not the case at all.

Deleted Scenes -
There are about twenty minutes of deleted scenes here. That's actually quite a lot, but really there is not much here that you will miss. Probably Ugly Betty aficionados will be intrigued, but this is pretty much a one viewing only affair.

Ugly Bloopers -
This is about four minutes of bloopers. The usual screw-ups and stuff are here. This is funnier than you might expect. Then again, the title of the extra contains the word "blooper" so you can expect a chuckle or two.

THE INSIDE PULSE

This show is not for everyone, but it is a quality show. It is centered on the world of fashion, so fans of fashion will no doubt like this show. But really this show is about the interesting character of Betty, and how she balances her personal and professional lives, along with the relationships with everyone involved in her life. It's worth at least a rental to see why so many people have fallen in love with Betty.

James Van Der Beek has been tapped for a guest role on ABC's hit dramedy, Ugly Betty. According to E! Online, Van Der Beek will play the owner of a fashion house called Attic Attire.

A "slightly homophobic designer," Van Der Beek's character experiences some problems working with Mode magazine's co-editor, Alexis Meade (Rebecca Romjin), who is a transsexual. He pressures Alexis' younger brother, Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius), to fire Alexis because he refuses to do business with her.

The 30-year-old actor first rose to fame when he starred in the popular teen drama series, Dawson's Creek. On the show, James Van Der Beek played Dawson Leery, an aspiring filmmaker who gets involved with his best friend, Josephine “Joey” Lynn Potter (Katie Holmes). Other cast members included Joshua Jackson (Bobby) as Pacey Witter, Oscar nominee Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain) as Jen Lindley and Kerr Smith (Justice) as Jack McPhee.

James Van Der Beek's other notable acting credits include Varsity Blues, The Rules of Attraction and Criminal Minds.

Other celebrities who have appeared as guest stars on Ugly Betty include Gina Gershon (Bound, Face/Off), and Salma Hayek, who also serves as an executive-producer for the show. Gershon is known for her portrayal of Italian cosmetics mogul Fabia, the arch-rival of Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams), while Hayek appeared in the first season as seductive magazine editor, Sofia Reyes.

In the forthcoming season of the series, actor Freddy Rodriguez and singer Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham are expected to appear. Rodriguez will play a new character named Giovanni, a sandwich cart operator who becomes Betty's (America Ferrera) new love interest, while Beckham will reportedly play a fat version of herself.

For this year's Emmy Awards, Ugly Betty's debut season picked up four acting nominations: Outstanding Lead Actress for Ferrera, Oustanding Supporting Actress for Williams and Outstanding Guest Actress for both Hayek and Judith Light. In addition, the show is nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series.

The second season of Ugly Betty will premiere on September 27.

On Monday night, the cast and crew of ABC's Ugly Betty came out to celebrate the series' first-season DVD release, but the excitement was due mainly to being part of the hit show and looking forward to its return in the fall.

"It's nice, for me at least, to look back and think, `Wow, this has been such an incredible year,'" America Ferrera, an Emmy nominee for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, told the Associated Press. "There has been so much blood, sweat and tears of happiness and tiredness and joy and all of that put into it."

For the event, which was held at Mondrian Hotel's Skybar in Hollywood, the show's stars donned dresses from such respected designers as Prada, Nanette Lepore and Bill Blass.

Ugly Betty, an adaptation of the Colombian telenovela, Yo Soy Betty La Fea, revolves around a homely woman named Betty (America Ferrera), who becomes the assistant of editor and notorious playboy Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius). The show has fared extremely well against competition since it debuted last fall, and was renewed for a second season in March.

While making their way through the red carpet event on Monday, the show's stars took the time to share some season two tidbits. America Ferrera told the Associated Press that viewers can expect for her character to “grow up a lot” in the upcoming season, implying that Betty may move out of her father's house in Queens.

Mabius named Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham and Freddy Rodriguez (Six Feet Under) as season-two guest stars. Beckham's episode has yet to be filmed.

Ana Ortiz, who plays Betty's older sister, Hilda, said that her character will be dating and searching for a new job. “And you know Hilda's track record with jobs!" she said, laughing.

The first season of Ugly Betty ended with many question marks in the air, including the fate of Rebecca Romjin's character, Alexis Meade, who was last seen unconscious in a smoldering crashed car with Mabius' Daniel. However, the actress, who recently wed actor Jerry O'Connell, was careful not to give away too much about her character in the second season, simply acknowledging Alexis' continued employment at Mode magazine.

“I'm at least alive,” Romjin said, smiling.

Also left hanging last season was the fate of Betty's relationship with accountant Henry, played by Christopher Gorham. In the finale, Gorham's Henry boarded a plane back to Arizona with his pregnant girlfriend, Charlie. Unbeknownst to Henry, Charlie had become involved with someone else, thus raising the possibility that the baby is not his.

"Well, there is a pretty good chance that Henry comes back," Gorham revealed to the Associated Press. "I can't tell you how he comes back. I can tell you that you cannot miss the first five minutes of the first episode of season two. It's one of the funniest scenes that we have shot to date. It's a Betty, Henry, Charlie scene. It's subtitled. It's really incredible."

The second season of Ugly Betty will begin on September 27.

Victoria to Guest Star...

Victoria Beckham is "very likely" going to guest star on Ugly Betty. This is what the cast told me when I encountered them last night at the Ugly Betty season-one DVD party. (Yes, the DVD is out today! Run, don't walk!)

Eric Mabius explained that although he was misquoted in the British press that Victoria was "keen" on guest-starring (what kind of Yank says "keen"?), he told me he did meet up with her for a magazine gig in the U.K., and she did mention she'd love to come on the show.

Long story short, after a few phone calls back and forth, it looks as if Posh is set to guest star this season, playing—according to various Betty castmembers—a bridesmaid for someone who "was supposed to get married last season." If you guessed a woman whose name starts with a W, well, I think you would be correct, my friend!

When asked whether Victoria will appear on the show, a rep for ABC said, "No comment." So, it is not yet official. Meanwhile, America joked she's honing up on her soccer skills on the off chance Becks should stop by. Love her.

According to the cast, Freddy Rodriguez and James Van Der Beek are also set to appear this season. Yes, you heard me, the Beek is gonna be on Betty.

Not for a while. We caught up with Tony Plana at the High School Musical 2 premiere at Disneyland, and he said that things are rough for Ignacio as the season opens. He told us Ignacio is trapped in Mexico because of his immigration status, even while Betty, Hilda and Justin are back in Queens. He said, "I can't wait to get back to my kitchen!" but that Ignacio will suffer greatly until his legal issues are worked out and he can be reunited with his family.

Retired professional basketball player Rick Fox will be appearing in the upcoming season of Ugly Betty, ABC Studios confirmed last week.

Fox will appear in at least two episodes as Dwayne, a bodyguard to Mode Magazine's wicked magazine editor, Wilhelmina Slater, played by Vanessa Williams. In real life, Fox and Williams have shared more than just a professional relationship, as the the two were once married, and have one daughter by the name of Sasha.

Rick Fox and Vanessa Williams tied the knot in 1999, holding the private ceremony in the Caribbean. A few months later, the couple got married again, this time at a church in New York City.

In August 2004, a month before Fox retired from the Los Angeles Lakers, the 38-year-old baller-turned-actor filed for divorce from Williams, with neither of them specifying the cause of the split. At the time, Fox's spokeswoman Staci Wolfe told the Associated Press that the couple, being “extremely devoted parents,” would keep daughter Sasha their top priority.

Following the divorce and his retirement from basketball, Fox focused his energy on building an acting career. Most recently, he starred on FX's Dirt, wherein he played a famous basketball player experiencing some marital problems.

Meanwhile, Vanessa Williams is experiencing great success on Ugly Betty, having just received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. The show's star, America Ferrera, is also up for an Emmy, having been nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress category.

he 22nd Annual Imagen Awards was held late last month at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and among the top winners that night was the ABC hit comedy series, Ugly Betty.

The series picked up the award for Best Primetime Program, beating out the shows Lost, Angel Rodriguez and George Lopez. Ugly Betty star America Ferrera was named Best Actress (in television) and was among the night's honorees as the recipient of the Imagen Foundation's Creative Achievement Award.

For the award, America Ferrera was up against actresses Eva Longoria (Housewives.aspx">Desperate Housewives), Kathleen Herles (Dora the Explorer), Mercedes Ruehl (A Girl Like Me, The Gwen Araujo Story), Judy Reyes (Scrubs) and Constance Marie (George Lopez).

Ana Ortiz, who plays Hilda Suarez on Ugly Betty, received the award for Best Supporting Actress that night. Other actresses who were nominated in the category include Sara Ramirez (Grey's Anatomy), Aimee Garcia (George Lopez), Eva LaRue (CSI: Miami) and Alana de la Garza (Law & Order).

Another big winner at this year's Imagen Awards was the film “Pan's Labyrinth,” directed by Mexican director Guillermo del Toro. The movie, which tells the story of a young girl who resorts to fairy tales as a means of escaping the cruelty of fascist Spain, was awarded Best Picture. Del Toro was named Best Director, while the film's 13-year-old star, Ivana Baquero, was named Best Actress (in film).

According to the official website, The Imagen Awards “were established in 1985 to encourage and recognize the positive portrayal of Latinos in all media and to increase Latino representation at all levels of the entertainment industry.”

Aside from winning most of the top categories in the Imagen Awards, Ugly Betty is also nominated for 11 Emmy awards this year, including an Outstanding Lead Actress nod for America Ferrera, an Outstanding Supporting Actress nod for Vanessa Williams, Outstanding Guest Actress nods for executive producer Selma Hayek and Judith Light and an Outstanding Comedy Series nod for the show.

Rick fox to star in Ugly Betty

As reported earlier, Ugly Betty is expanding its cast by getting actor Freddy Rodriguez to play Betty's (America Ferrera) love interest in the second season. His inclusion has left fans wondering about the fate of Betty's relationship with Henry (Christopher Gorham), who returned to his hometown with his pregnant girlfriend, Charlie, in the season finale.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Henry will indeed be back next season, but because he is still involved with Charlie, fans should not expect Betty and Henry to immediately resume their romantic relationship. Moreover, Henry's return to the Mode offices is due mainly to his need for health insurance, but being the noble person that he is, he first asks Betty if she will be fine with him working there again.

Although it is not yet clear how Betty's love life will sort out, one certainty is that another prominent character in Ugly Betty will experience some activity in the love department.

Michael Urie, who plays Wilhemina Slater's (Vanessa Williams) gay assistant, Marc, told the Chicago Tribune that his character gets a romance in the upcoming season. Also, Patti Lupone is set to reprise her role as Marc's mother, who may finally be ready to accept her son's homosexuality.

The 26-year-old actor also let slip that Marc and his best gal pal, Amanda (Becki Newton) will not only attempt to figure out where Amanda came from, but also who her real father is. Michael Urie also said that the manner in which Marc helps his friend is “really gross” but “really funny.”

Fans can also expect more interaction between Urie's character and Betty's nephew, Justin (Mark Indelicato), as the latter will become one of Mode magazine's interns early in the season.

“I spent the whole morning screaming and yelling at them,” Michael Urie said of that day's shooting. “They didn't get the right kind of bendy straws for a Shakira photo shoot. It was such funny stuff.”

The fourth season of Ugly Betty will premiere on September 27.

I hear producers were so tickled by their interplay in last season's Fashion Week episode that they're planning several encores — beginning with the season premiere when Justin makes a cameo at "Mode," prompting Wilhelmina to mistake him for a… um… you'll see. Suffice it to say, it's so funny you'll piddle.

Ausiello: Don't tell Marc, but Amanda's getting a new sidekick — and this one has four legs. Marc, meanwhile, is getting his first stalker in the form of a gay, overweight, average-looking shutterbug.
